Casual Look Now in Vogue? Check Out Cynthia & Angel Collection

This season trend across African design houses are moving towards casual and youthfull looks. Floral details still surface and less heavy textiles seem to go no where.

With that said, Cynthia & Angel  are bringing a very youthful collection to this space. According to their press report, the collection overall look is very specific. Idealized by the casualness that comes with the city of Abuja, the collection is strongly inspired by loungewear, fancy in mid and lean silhouettes with a great hint of pajama-style.

This collection conjures a vaguely sarcastic vibe with pieces that transits from work to play. The most appealing looks defy you with their sensuous but conservative charm. The clothes are for the playful and stylish professional woman who want a bit of strange awesomeness

How This Nigerian Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna Got Accepted by All 8 Ivy League Schools

This young Nigerian, Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna is a force to be reckoned with!

Remember when a Nigerian student from New York, Harold Ekeh got accepted into all 8 Ivy League schools? It’s happened again!
Elmont Memorial High School student Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna has been accepted to all eight Ivy League schools. The high schooler waited hesitantly for the results of her college admission applications to find out in pure disbelief that one by one, each relayed the same news: Harvard. Yes. Dartmouth. Yes. Princeton. Yes. The University of Pennsylvania. Yes. Cornell, Yale, Columbia, Brown: yes, yes, yes, yes.
It was March 31, the emotion-filled day when Ivy League universities posted their decisions online. And Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna, a senior at Elmont Memorial High School, became the second student there to pull off an exceedingly rare feat: She swept all eight.
She screamed. Then she cried.
“It’s so surreal,” Ms. Uwamanzu-Nna, 17, said on Wednesday to the New York Times. “It’s still hard to actually believe that this has happened to me.”
Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna’s high school has also been celebrating with the valedictorian.
“Having two students get accepted into all eight Ivy League institutions in back-to-back years is humbling but also speaks to the incredible commitment to children by the families and staff within the EMHS Community,” said Kevin Dougherty, Elmont Memorial High School principal.
“My recent accomplishments reflect the hardworking ideals of the town of Elmont, my supportive parents and my dedicated teachers. I am elated, but most importantly, I am thankful,” she said in a press release.

She also realises that it’s a unique opportunity and is quoted saying “Though I was born here in America, I visited Nigeria many times, and I’ve seen that my cousins don’t have the same opportunities that I have. So definitely, whatever I do, I want to make sure that it has an impact on Nigeria.”

Augusta has until May 1 to make a decision. We wish her the very best as she progresses at every stage of her education and congrats on the achievement.

5 Eternal Style Lessons We’ve Learned From Genevieve Nnaji

Genevieve Nnaji’s name is synonymous with Nollywood screen goddess, killer style, jaw-dropping beauty and a joie de vivre we wish could be bottled. The Mbaise beauty has maintained her glamazon status as long as we can remember, starting with her breakout moments as one of the top stars in the Nigerian movie industry. With her recent movie Road to Yesterday, which is set to hit the cinemas across the country soon, we have put together the 5 lessons we’ve learned from the iconic Nollywood actress.

#1. Let Your Natural Beauty Shine

What We’ve Learned: Keep hair and makeup simple when opting for a head-turning classy evening look. Genevieve Nnaji stuns in a cute evening look. She rocks Tiffany Amber Eden Waistcoat from the SS 2015 collection.

#2. Coordinating Outfits Is Fully Acceptable

What We’ve Learned: If your #squadgoals include matching ensembles, you’re on the right track.

gen friends

#3. Don’t Be Basic

What We’ve Learned: If you go with a black dress, be sure it’s anything-but-boring by opting for a style with intricate embellishments, sheer paneling or a dramatic silhouette.

gen black

#4. More Is More

What We’ve Learned: Lux materials like sequin and faux fur can totally coexist, as long as you keep it polished. When in doubt, opt for a more conservative use of sequin as seen on Genevieve Nnaji below. She looks snatched in Deola Sagoe and Lisa Folawiyo.

#5. Invest In Accessories

What We’ve Learned: Statement accessories like traditional coral beads make a huge difference to your look. Beads as embellishments on your outfit, oversize sunnies and a power bag will ensure you look stylish.

Photos: Rele Gallery Shows Off ‘Everyday People’ in New Exhibition

Lagos’s most exciting art destination Rele Gallery has announced the launch of a new exhibition, ‘Everyday People’ a photography series on some particular Lagos citizens shot by breakout photographer, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole.

Dr. Jumoke Oduwole

The gallery known for its artistic innovation and unprecedented exhibition offerings and their chosen subject matter, has again done the unexpected, taking on an artist that would be in most circles considered a late bloomer. Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, in her other life is a lecturer at the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos.

The series ‘Everyday People’ is an attempt to chronicle social change. It is a turn of lens on the beautifully ordinary characters that dot the Lagos landscape, on the everyday icons of our sprawling metropolis. It captures these particular citizens that are the heart and soul of the city, at their most raw, going about their seemingly uncluttered lives yet with industry, contemplation, atimes resignation and ultimately with resilience. The series was shot over a one year period in popular, throbbing urban areas- Jakande, Agric Market, Ojuelegba, Jankara market and Iddo.

The exhibition berthed in a private opening last Sunday and immediately sparked conversations about social change and garnered on-site sterling reviews. Guests went further to put their money where their mouths were, with 70% of the work being sold on the day.

The exhibition opens to the public from the 20th of October 2015, at the gallery – 5 Military Street, Onikan, Lagos.

Urban & Casual! Introducing MXVV Cruise Collection Range 2015/16 Lookbook

A new menswear line has been launched by fast rising menswear designer MAXIVIVE. MXVV is the latest fashion project inspired by the success of luxury and androgynous brand MAXIVIVE. The creative director Babatunde Oyeyemi just carved a niche in Urban Wear in Nigeria seeing that a lot of urban wear brands were very stale and simple he decided to create a diffusion line called MXVV.

The brand thrives for its casual sportwear aesthetic which are defining key elements in the MXVV brand for the new cruise 2015/16 collection. For its first diffusion range MXVV drew its inspiration from well-known problems in the Nigerian market like the lack of functionality and simplicity with that in mind the new collection solves this problem by producing designs that have a minimalist approach.

The range grand purpose and business is not to see what lies dimly in the distance, but to solve and do what lies clearly at hand.

MXVV cruise collection differentiates itself from the regular Nigerian Urbanwear for its 2015/16 Cruise collection by creating a mixture of Styles and Functionality, with detachable pockets and Velcro straps. The Cruise collection is the perfect balance between Nigerian everyday life and urban style.
