Dressing up Nigerian has finally come full circle. Rele Gallery, leading contemporary art gallery made sure of that this past weekend.

From being allotted glossy pages of lifestyle magazines, to black and white ones in soft sells, to being touted in online media, and Instagram pages of fashion tastemakers, dressing up Nigerian has for the first time gotten its due in artistic form, in a career-defining exhibition, by illustrator and visual artist, Ibe Ananaba.

The exhibition, titled “Selense” opened last weekend at Rele Gallery.

Selense is a collection of 30-odd pieces that capture the bombastic Nigerian spirit of dressing. In generous strokes, oils and colour, the artist brings to life, women from runways, dandies from the street, show-offs and statement makers for whom extravagance is a statement to be made.

Selense, literally means to show off.

The artist also captures how we as a people perform this extravagance in the midst of Nigeria’s problems and quite often, in spite of it.

Guests also enjoyed Cointreau’s selection of Cointreau Fizz cocktails, while they fed their eyes and minds with works on display.

You will be well advised to come see it yourself, if you haven’t. The exhibition is open until September 26th 2016.

Carving the Phenomenal Out of the Familiar: Photos from Interior Living’s Studio Launch

Interior Living™ is a new interior decor studio recently set up in Lagos. We’ve seen a rise in interest for events decor and interior is becoming even more popular.

Interior Living™ is being introduced as Nigeria’s leading minimalist interior design company, as it launched its studio in a serene creativity-enhancing environment within the bustling metropolis of Lagos. The space houses several offices, an exhibition space, an art shop, a workshop, and a kitchenette.

Interior Living-Lagos-June2016-TheGlowingColours Interior Living-Lagos-June2016-TheGlowingColours

According to Bakare, the business was inspired by a combination of passion, skill and the need to channel creative expression. Since then, it has been further boosted by a market demand for her elegant touch. After over two years of high level engagement with the industry amid launching top-notch interior design solutions from the virtual platform, the company has taken greater strides by setting up its stimulating space and is set to become the foremost culturally-aware interior design company in Africa, building visions, unlocking dreams, one door at a time.

A taste of the company’s mission was experienced at the launch with exhibitions of eras and civilizations, symbolically laid out like the transiting pages of a history book. From portraits of the visionary’s first artistic inspiration, her praying grandmother, to a minimalist depiction of age-long commonly used household items all sprayed in white, and a modern portrayal of comfort and class, the space retells a story through time. A gigantic caged lighting system, nicknamed Starburst, constructed by the Interior Living™ (IL) team, adorned the modern living space climaxing a fractal directional system. With this, IL announced its value proposition which is, to carve the phenomenal out of the familiar thereby optimizing identity and influencing civilization.
